The legal issue between Cristiano Ronaldo and 36-time Italian champion Juventus has reached its final stage. Ronaldo and his legal team, who had sought arbitration in June to settle an issue from 2020–21 regarding his salary, are expected to receive the verdict soon.
This is, however, not the first time Juventus has faced such issues. After a similar settlement in the case of former player, Paulo Dybala, the club was also recently banned from the first two tiers of European championships, the Champions League and the Europa League, due to violations of financial fair play. Now, the team is also accused of owing the Portuguese captain money.

In a trial spanning a few months, Juventus were accused of a salary maneuver during the 2019–2020 season due to COVID-19. Claiming to be owed approximately $21.3 million, Ronaldo sued the Italian club, which they have rejected, saying that since his move to Manchester United materialized, the deal was said to have been ineffective.
The verdict is expected to arrive in April, but the closing statements will be submitted by both parties today, according to reports. It is also possible that there will be another trial in January 2024.
The 2020–2021 season was one of its kind when players were ready to take a pay cut due to the COVID-19-affected season. The amount was then planned to be repaid in the subsequent seasons. Other players who were also reported to be owed were Miralem Pjanic, Aaron Ramsey, and Adrien Rabiot.
Juventus claimed that by moving to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo renounced the outstanding amount. Meanwhile, Argentinian player Paulo Dybala was also owed $4 million, but he withdrew the lawsuit, as claimed by reports. However, Cristiano Ronaldo took assistance from the law on the issue two years after moving away from the club.
