Luis Castro seems to have been mesmerized by Cristiano Ronaldo ever since becoming the coach of Al Nassr. The Portuguese coach has been full of praise for his star player and recently even likened his star player to a ‘powerful car’. Now the praise has reached new heights as for Castro, Ronaldo still holds the title of the best player in the world.

When discussing the greatest players of all time, two names consistently arise: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. But both players currently are well beyond their prime years. Particularly the Portuguese striker, who is at the age of 38, but for Castro age is no obstacle in his case.

The Al Nassr coach recently sat down in an interview to praise the top goalscorer of his team. He stated, “In my opinion, Cristiano Ronaldo is still the best player in the world.” Despite the emergence of young superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, CR7’s brilliance surpasses them all for Castro.

It is not difficult to understand where Castro’s claim comes from. Ronaldo has had an exceptional 2023, scoring an impressive 50 goals and trailing Harry Kane by only one goal to finish the year as the top goalscorer. Moreover, the 5x Ballon d’Or winner played a crucial role in helping Al Nassr secure victory in the Arab Club Champions Cup.

While for Luis Castro, Cristiano Ronaldo is undeniably the best player, he also believes that the team surrounding him at Al Nassr does not measure up to his level of skill. The 62-year-old even went as far as to describe the team as “full of potholes.”

He acknowledged that for “Ronaldo to reach his full potential,” it is imperative to build a team specifically tailored to enhance his abilities. To illustrate this point, the Al Nassr boss stated, “We cannot have a powerful car and want to drive it on a road full of potholes.”

Despite the legendary striker being the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League with an impressive 16 goals, the team currently sits in second place in the points table and trails behind league leaders Al Hilal by 10 points. This demonstrates why Luis Castro wants the team to step up their game and provide more support for Cristiano Ronaldo.
