The Italian government looks to leave no box unchecked when it comes to their privacy laws. The past few years have been a real eye-opener for the nation with multiple high-profile individuals complaining about illegal spying. Soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo was amongst the victims as the player blasted the government for the lack of security detail. Well, it seems like Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has had enough of the drama!
The Italian Prime Minister raised the issue during the recent parliamentary session, questioning the shortcomings during the past few years. Meloni also stated that the government needs to bring in bolstered laws to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. The Italian authorities are currently investigating Pasquale Striano, a lieutenant serving the ‘Flamme Gialle’. Striano was involved in multiple investigations with the officer charged for illegally spying on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Agnelli, and Massimiliano Allegri.
Multiple officials in Italy have also supported Giorgia Meloni’s claim. Carlo Nordio and Guido Crosetto have also requested the government to re-establish the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to support the ongoing investigations.
