Tough times never last, but tough people do. And Cristiano Ronaldo is a significant example of this. Cristiano Ronaldo, known for his heroics in soccer, endured the toughest period of his life last year. The start of the 2022-23 season brought challenges for the soccer superstar, on and off the field.

And it all started with a massive family loss, followed by his absence from the Manchester United preseason, torrid time at Old Trafford, United contract termination, and disappointing World Cup campaign. Recently, his partner Georgina Rodriguez revealed the struggles the Portuguese went through after her son’s loss in a Netflix documentary.  

Cristiano Ronaldo is also human, after all

Ronaldo missed the preseason with Manchester United under the new manager Erik Ten Hag, citing family reasons. Later, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed he lost his newborn son in April 2022. He was expecting twins with partner Georgina Rodriguez. However, his son Angel and daughter Bella survived. Bella spent a week in a hospital, which took its toll on Ronaldo.

In her Netflix documentary, I Am Georgina, season two, the social media influencer shed light on the incident. “Cristiano needed time to rest and be with us. He needed to process everything that happened. The shock we went through. When Bella spent that week in the hospital, Cristiano hit rock bottom. Life goes on. You push forward. Sometimes you don’t even have time to think. But when you do, like anyone, it brings you down. Ultimately life goes on. But we are still humans with feelings,” Georgina said in the documentary. 

It was an emotional roller-coaster ride for Cristiano Ronaldo. He went through a lot of struggles and grief during that period. It affected the Portuguese’ on-field performances. He had a torrid FIFA World Cup campaign and saw his contract getting terminated after an explosive interview. He did come back from that tough period and became the highest-paid athlete.

Will Ronaldo leave Al Nassr this summer?

After a torrid first half of the season, the former Real Madrid superstar joined Al Nassr in January. It took an enormous offer from the Saudi Arabian club to land the Portuguese. He had a mixed start to the Al Nassr life. Ronaldo won the February Player of the Month but saw his club getting knocked out of three domestic cups.

Al Nassr also lost the lead at the top and is now three points behind the league leader, Al Ittihad. Amid the struggles of the club, rumors are emerging from the Gulf nation of Ronaldo leaving the club in the summer transfer window. Only time will tell how true the reports are. Till then, Ronaldo and Al Nassr will fight for the league title with two games to go.
