Cristiano Ronaldo has been arm-twisted to put his much-anticipated $27 million project on hold. This setback is a crushing blow for Ronaldo, as he had obtained planning permission to rehabilitate a historic, derelict property into a luxurious hotel in 2020. Unfortunately, the expiration of the permission has brought an abrupt end to his dream venture.

It is no secret that Ronaldo’s last few months in the city of Manchester were marred by controversies in his tenure at Manchester United. Just like his tumultuous experience with the club, his ambitious 11-storey hotel project has now also become a chaotic mess.

Under his esteemed brand CR7, Cristiano Ronaldo had envisaged constructing a remarkable hotel housing a total of 151 rooms. The chosen location was an old building in the heart of the city, left in ruins for several years. In 2020, he was granted three years of planning permission to transform the abandoned property.

However, with no progress made within the stipulated time frame, the permission officially expired on December 16. The hotel, which was slated for opening this year, remains in the same condition it was in before the proposal. According to reports from the Sun, several “well-documented and unforeseen macroeconomic challenges” are to blame for the lack of progress.

The predicament has also left Manchester’s city council frustrated. The council had high hopes for the redevelopment, as it would have brought around $71 million to the local economy. Along with his $27 million investment being a letdown for the City council, his other $22 million project in Portugal also become a nuisance for his neighbors.

One neighbor expressed their exasperation by declaring, “We are fed up!” while another shared their grievances by stating, “My street has been cut off for months, my garden is full of dust.” While Ronaldo’s performance on the field brings joy to fans, it appears that his off-pitch ventures are not receiving the same warm reception from people.
