Cristiano Ronaldo was born to his mother, Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, and father, Jose Dinis Aveiro. By profession, Jose was a gardener and also worked part-time as a kit man for the local soccer team CF Andorinha. A fervent soccer supporter, he steadfastly believed in the Portuguese striker’s potential.

However, despite his admiration for his father’s passion and support, the soccer superstar’s relationship with him was strained due to Jose’s severe struggle with alcoholism. Tragically, in 2005, Cristiano Ronaldo lost his father to kidney failure resulting from chronic alcohol abuse. This loss has remained a poignant source of sorrow for the 39-year-old as his father did not live long enough to witness his meteoric rise in international soccer.

On the other hand, Dolores worked diligently as a cleaner and cook to support her family. The household faced numerous challenges, so much so that during her pregnancy with Cristiano she even contemplated abortion—a decision she thankfully reconsidered. Her son’s extraordinary accomplishments have since catapulted her into public recognition.

She now boasts over 4.1 million followers on Instagram but has had her health battles along the way. In 2007, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she managed to overcome it and is now enjoying her life. It is worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo is not the only child in the family.
