Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo has every right to feel hard done by. The IFFHS recently released its rankings for the 10 best soccer players in the world. Guess what, CR7 doesn’t even make the list! For a player who is going to end the calendar year as the top goalscorer with 53 goals, that is a brutal snub. CR7 did not seem to be pleased with the rankings. How could he, when the ‘King‘ who is going to win the IFFHS Best Goalscorer award, is not getting the due recognition? CR7 reacted on social media with 3 laughing emojis and one of a monkey closing his eyes.

The charismatic star has always been vocal in expressing his opinions, and this incident is just the most popular of many. In this article, let us look at some unexpected comments of the Al Nassr star that sent social media into a frenzy.

In 2021, Lionel Messi won his 7th Ballon d’Or and overtook Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally by 2. One CR7 fan was particularly unhappy and took to Instagram to voice his opinion. He listed Messi’s achievements for the year which weren’t the most glamorous, as the Barcelona star lost out on the La Liga to Atletico and had a poor UCL campaign.

He seemingly highlighted how it was much harder for CR7 to win the Ballon d’Or. The reference being made was the 2017/18 season where Ronaldo scored 44 goals and a hat trick in the World Cup against Spain but missed out to Modric. As per the fan, CR7 deserved the award in 2021 and regardless is the ‘best in history‘. Ronaldo agreed with a ‘factos‘ comment.

2. The return of the ‘king’

Following, the appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager, CR7 didn’t feature in any of the pre-season matches. The reasons cited were family issues, but there were also questions about his future at the club.

After his absence against Atletico in a pre-season game, Cristiano Ronaldo announced his return against Rayo Vallecano on Instagram. The Portuguese star commented “Domingo o rei joga” which translates to ‘Sunday, the king plays‘. In the end, the soccer icon did play.
