Argentina displayed a different side to their game throughout the 2022 World Cup, with players wearing their emotions on their sleeves. The tournament final saw La Albiceleste defender Cristiano Romero celebrate vehemently in front of Kylian Mbappe, as he screamed in front of the Frenchman after a goal from Lionel Messi in the dying minutes of the game. In a recently released docu-series, the Argentine touched down on his actions, claiming he was just returning the PSG star a receipt.

Cristian Romero has emerged as one of the top names for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur this season. It will be interesting to see if the player can continue to deliver, with Spurs desperate for a return to form in the games ahead.

On this note, the Argentine defender opened up on his interaction with Kylian Mbappe during an exclusive docuseries for Star+. During the show, Romero stated that Mbappe had said something to Enzo Fernandez, which did not sit well with him.

Romero stated, “In the minute before shouting the goal to Mbappé, he said some nonsense (sic) to Enzo (Fernández). I didn’t like it, at that moment I was really hot. Leo just scored the goal, and it came out of me. These are things of football and they stayed there, then the press made it a little bigger, but we have maximum respect for him and for all the players. It remains within the field.”

It seems like Kylian Mbappe used Romero’s celebration as the fuel to bring France into the game, finding the leveler in the closing minutes of extra time to take the game into penalties. Argentina’s Emiliano Martínez, however, stood up to the occasion and helped his side get their hands on the World Cup title.
