PSG’s last outing in the Champions League was a bitter pill to swallow. The team displayed an underwhelming performance as Newcastle United put four past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG and Kylian Mbappe face AC Milan next. Speaking about the upcoming game, a soccer analyst has expressed concerns that persist with Luis Enrique’s squad.

PSG, in the ‘group of death,’ find themselves in a pickle. After winning their first match against Borussia Dortmund, they lost 4-1 away to Newcastle United. A further drop can dampen their hopes of finding a spot in the knockout stage.

AC Milan has drawn their last two UCL matches, although being the more dominant side in both games. Boasting the likes of Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, the defense is rock solid, or so it seemed before the outing against the Magpies.  An ESPN correspondent, Julien Laurens, has shared his take on the upcoming tie.

Laurens, who co-hosts of the Gab and Jules show, talked about the importance of the fixture as he said, “It’s a must win game now for PSG. Anything but a win would be disappointing could be a blow for the qualification as well for the knockout stages, so already you could feel the tension in Paris before the game.”

Laurens further added, “You could be confident cause it’s at home you have the crowd with you and this is still a very good team (PSG) but you also fear that there might be a bit of pressure filling in into that dressing room because of what happened in Newcastle and the position that PSG are in right now.”

The club has performed well in Ligue 1, although not up to their usual standards, but is failing to transcend the same form in the Champions League.

PSG currently stands 2nd in the UCL group table with 3 points. Milan stands in the 3rd position with 2 points while Newcastle United tops the group with 4 points winning 1 and drawing 1 game. Dortmund is languishing at the bottom with 1 point. Since the group is closely contested, given that the first and last places only have 3 points between them, if PSG doesn’t win in their upcoming tie, the situation can get further complicated for Luis Enrique.

The defeat against Newcastle United shattered not only the hopes of PSG supporters but the team’s as well. Coming as the underdogs in the match, Newcastle ran rampant against an underperforming PSG. Luis Enrique’s 4-4-2 also didn’t impact the game significantly as the French side was left questioning their talents. On the other hand, Newcastle has performed exceptionally well, with a draw against Milan and defeating PSG at home.
