It’s not every day that you get compared to Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker recently swept up the UEFA POTY award for his remarkable first season with City. And of course, the Citizens also won a historic treble. But for Wrexham AFC striker Paul Mullin, who has been dubbed the “Non-League Haaland”, by fans across the spectrum, the comparisons are only for a laugh.

Wrexham’s journey from the fifth tier of English soccer to gaining promotion to EFL League Two has been nothing short of remarkable. And the club’s star striker Paul Mullin has been at the heart of their renaissance. Mullin has recently also announced his autobiography titled “My Wrexham Story”, which explores his story at the club.

The striker signed for Wrexham ahead of the 2021/22 season and hasn’t looked back since. In the process, he has become the club’s top scorer over two seasons. And now, Mullin has addressed the nickname given to him in a recent interview.

Speaking about being called the “non-league Haaland,” on Goal.com’s Box to Box, and laughing it off, Mullin said, “That’s rubbish.” “People probably say it as a laugh and a joke and things like that.” “But football is serious to me and uh I didn’t quite well to part in terms of the levels we’re at.” “So he’s probably six inches bigger than me, six meters a second quicker than me, and probably scored six more than me.”

Mullin has been pivotal to Wrexham’s meteoric rise from the abyss. The striker top scored the National League last season with 38 goals in 46 appearances as Wrexham went on to win the league. The club racked up 111 points and in turn, gained promotion to EFL League Two. Mullin also scored 9 goals in the Red Dragons’ FA Cup run last season as they got knocked out in the 4th Round to Sheffield United in a replay. Wrexham has, however, endured a sluggish start to life in the EFL League Two
