Former Newcastle United and Hull City star Marcus Maddison has been sentenced to 60 months in jail. Maddison has been slammed with the sentence after he admitted to the crime in front of the Teesside Crown Court.

The former Premier League star was compared to the likes of Welsh icon Gareth Bale but fell off the radar following a string of disappointing performances. Maddison was playing for Darlington FC when the incident happened, and the club has been quick to take a decision with their player.

The 29-year-old has been convicted of attacking a 60-year-old woman, fracturing her jaw in the process. Maddison agreed to the assault charges in front of the Teesside Crown Court and will now serve 20 months in prison.

Darlington FC issued an official statement, as the case was made public. The club has condemned the act and has mutually decided to terminate Marcus Maddison’s contract. The club, talking to BBC, cited the reason as their zero tolerance for abusive behavior and has parted ways with the player.

A club spokesperson touched down on the debacle, claiming, “Darlington FC is a fan-owned club and has zero tolerance of discrimination, violence or abusive behavior.”

Marcus started off his journey via Newcastle United’s youth academy. However, despite his skills, the player could not find a break with the club and moved to Peterborough making 249 club outings.

Marcus Maddison was a top emerging prospect and made some notable contributions to Peterborough. The youngster was on the top of his game following his arrival. Moreover, Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson also lauded the player comparing him with Gareth Bale.

It is an incredible ability to hit the ball so well. It is more Gareth Bale than Beckham, and it is a joy to watch. He couldn’t really get into the game in the first half, but he dropped a bit deeper after the break and had a huge impact.

However, following a hot start for the club, the player soon fell off the chart. Despite his four seasons with the club, couldn’t make a major impact on the team or his career.
