Manchester City had out-classed the likes of FC Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to sign Claudio Echeverri, the next Lionel Messi. Pep Guardiola‘s side was the first among these top clubs to present a $27 million offer to River Plate to land Claudio Echeverri. Per the 17-year-old’s agent, he and Man City shook hands for a six-season deal.
According to prior reports, City will loan Echeverri to River Plate for six months or a year. Now, Echeverri’s agent has confirmed that he will continue with the Argentina club for another year, on loan.

Claudio Echeverri’s agent Enzo Montepaone has told Calciomercato that the former’s Man City deal is confirmed. “I can confirm that everything is done for Claudio’s transfer from River Plate to Manchester City. We are very happy,” said Enzo Montepaone. The agent also confirmed that River Plate has accepted Manchester City’s bid $27 million for a six-season deal. However, the Cityzens will have to wait another year to see the Argentine’s action because he will stay in River Plate on loan.
Man City’s ‘Mr. Dependable’ striker Julian Alvarez came to Etihad from River Plate on a similar move. They signed Alvarez in a similar deal that saw him remain in River Plate before joining the Manchester-based outfit. Echeverri plays as a midfielder, and a midfielder is the need of the hour, as far as the Cityzens are concerned. Moreover, Echeverri boasts so impressive a resume that he is the fitting candidate to don the sky blue colors at Etihad midfield.

Echeverri could become Man City’s dependable midfield force
Though they boast an impressive lineup of midfielders, Manchester City is lacking young blood in the position. Kevin De Bruyne’s exit from the club is imminent. Whereas Rodri and Bernardo Silva, at their ages, are not the club’s future. At this juncture enters a teenager like Echeverri who has proven his talent. He started for River Plate as a reserve payer in the last season. During a short stint, he won the Argentinian League and the Campeon Trofeo de Campeones with River Plate.

What makes Echeverri a red-hot prospect is his stint with Argentina’s U-17 team. He scored 13 goals and five assists in 22 appearances for the country. These include five goals at the U-17 FIFA World Cup. During that World Cup, El Diablito Echeverri announced himself to the world by scoring a hat trick against Brazil! He has been on the radars of Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, and Real Madrid since then. When all is said and done, Pep Guardiola and co. take home the next Lionel Messi.
