The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup continues to excite fanbases. All participating nations are currently embroiled in an emphatic group stage. The USWNT also played their second match against the Netherlands, as both sides had to settle for a draw. Following the match, star player Trinity Rodman had some praise for her captain.

It wasn’t the result the USWNT expected, but the Dutch were quite impressive. While the USWNT may have failed to clinch a victory, they definitely saw the inception of a new connection within the team.

A new connection in the USWNT

Following the match, Washington Spirits star Trinity Rodman was taken aside to speak her mind about the result. When asked about the overview of the game, she began, “I think our positioning was a lot better. We were a lot more attack-minded. In the first half, I think we were more conservative in our movement and in the way we were playing.”

She added, “We were looking for a layoff, kind off turning, swinging, back and fourth, rather than kind off just going after them and I think In the second half, you’d notice there’s a lot more flexing behind.” The 21-year-old then spoke about the inception of a special connection, “There were more turns; there was more combination between me, Alex, Lindsey, so I think the connection was a lot better going forward rather than kind of just possessing.”

The Netherlands were far more impressive, breaking the deadlock in just 17 minutes with Jill Roord’s strike. The first half ended with the Dutch leading the game. Surely, the pep talk during the break inspired the USA ladies for a comeback as they equalized in the 62nd minute, thanks to a bullet header from skipper Lindsey Hooran.

Rodman also spoke about what changed in the second half. She said that the coach, Vlatko Andonovski, highlighted what the team was lacking. While knowing the team “would have performed better,” Rodman insisted that the transition helped them clinch an equalizer. Speaking of which, she had some praise for her skipper as well.

While reflecting on the game, Trinity was asked about her experience in the World Cup so far. She described it as “amazing.” The forward insists that, despite the ups and downs, the team wants to win every game. Subsequently, she was asked to comment on the USWNT skipper’s performance.

“She’s amazing. Great captain and I mean she wanted it so bad I think you could tell, she get’s fouled, little bit of trash talk and then she scores. So I think she was amped and that energy spread so much to the entire team.” The young starlet believes that Hooran’s presence in the team has benefited the whole squad. She hailed the skipper as a leader while revealing how her advice helps the team on an individual level.
