Oh, how the tables have turned. Christian Pulisic made a significant move to Chelsea back in 2019. However, despite his goals and performances, his transfer was deemed a flop. Now, since the American forward has found a new lease on life at AC Milan, shining on the pitch, the very rivals of his former club, Liverpool, are allegedly calling him back to the Premier League—a move he has been urged to consider, at least ‘after the World Cup,’ for the sake of USMNT and Mauricio Pochettino.

But why? Playing at one of the biggest clubs that competes in one of the best leagues in the beautiful game isn’t an opportunity that comes knocking on everyone’s door. Then again, such was the stance of many prior to his move from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea. Considering it a healthy reminder of what happened with him at Stamford Bridge, Charlie Davies would like Pulisic to ignore all the calls from England.

“If he kills it again this season, double-digits everything, and is a player of the season for Milan, all of a sudden bigger clubs come, say, Liverpool, are you making that move just because it’s Liverpool and they’ve won everything?” questioned the USMNT icon on the recent episode of CBS Sports Golazo’s Call It What You Want segment.

“Why would you [go there] at this stage? I’d say, ‘Give me another year. After the World Cup, we’ll talk.’ Because you’re in a perfect situation,” advised the former striker, urging that risking his game time, especially now that the World Cup is nearing, isn’t an option he should even think about. Indeed, valuable advice, considering it has its own drawbacks.

Of all the good things that one may imagine about Pulisic’s potential move to the Premier League, what if it doesn’t work out? Though the 26-year-old has allegedly been backed to replace the Reds’ star No. 11 Mohamed Salah, it’s still a risky transfer business to consider. As Christian is bound to play a key role in the upcoming 2026 World Cup for USMNT, he shall keep his impeccable form and domestic game time unaffected so that Pochettino and Co. can see him deliver the best.

What’s your perspective on:

Should Pulisic risk his AC Milan success for another Premier League stint, or stay put?

Have an interesting take?

Part of the skepticism stems from Pulisic’s five years at Stamford Bridge. Despite making 145 appearances, scoring 26 goals, and providing 19 assists, along with winning a UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup between 2019 and 2023, his time in England was still regarded as a failure. This is why other US icons previously stepped in to offer Pulisic the same advice.

Tim Howard and Landon Donovan remind Christian Pulisic about prior ‘mess’ Premier League return links

On the earlier podcast episode of Unfiltered Soccer, the two USMNT icons touched upon the return links of Mr. Captain America to England. Despite underlining all the good things at Chelsea, Howard said, “They were a little bit of a mess, to be honest, at the time when he was there. Got the short end of the stick. He left. Now, he’s gotten one of the most world-renowned clubs in the world, AC Milan.”

Notably, aside from Liverpool, Manchester United and West Ham are also reportedly keeping tabs on Christian. Now though the iconic goalkeeper wouldn’t oppose seeing Pulisic at a top club—provided Ruben Amorim or Arne Slot have “big plans” for him—Howard still cautions the forward to approach any domestic move with caution.

At the same time, Donovan concurred with Howard before offering his own blunt opinion, saying, “The highest level possible is great, but you have to be playing.”

While it seems the icons of his nation have shared their opinions, what actually matters the most is to see what Christian Pulisic will do regarding the potential Premier League return links.
