Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem to have made the expected impact at Chelsea. Having finished 12th last campaign, the Blues are showing little improvement this time around, after spending more than $500 million in the transfer window. Their main problem has been scoring goals with all their attackers lacking that clinical edge. A potential solution has emerged in Karim Benzema, which made ‘a lot of sense‘ to a well-known pundit. However, he will not be a straightforward signing as another English Premier League club is also in the running.

Since arriving in the Saudi Pro League, Karim Benzema hasn’t been able to replicate his Real Madrid days. Defending champions Al Ittihad currently sit 7th on the table, with the Frenchman receiving the bulk of the criticism. Keeping all that in mind, the striker may be open to a change of scenery. What does the current scenario look like?

There have been lots of recent reports linking Karim Benzema to Stamford Bridge and Shaka Hislop of ESPN FC is an advocate of the move. He said, “Given where Chelsea are and given who Chelsea have shown themselves to be, I think Kareem Benzema coming in giving a bit of experience, giving a bit of quality, particularly in that striker position, is something Chelsea desperately need.”

He also seemed to take a dig at Chelsea’s huge transfer spend by claiming that FFP doesn’t apply to ‘some clubs’. He added, “In terms of an easy fit, a natural fit, Benzema to Chelsea makes a whole lot of sense to me.” Additionally, Hislop also played down the rumors of Benzema to Arsenal. The pundit explained, “I mean Arsenal are building a more long-term project with the young players”.

He continued, “Somebody like Karim Benzema kind of coming in and upsetting both the identity of the club and maybe the wage structure, I think it’s harder for them to recover from.” The 5-time UCL winner is evidently not short of suitors. However, his future at Al Ittihad is still shrouded in mystery.

It could even be possible for Karim Benzema to continue his stay in Saudi. Provided, his ‘demands‘ are fully satisfied.

He was recently stripped of the captaincy by coach Marcelo Gallardo. The reason is that the Frenchman did not turn up for training sessions. This also led to him being excluded from the Dubai camp. However, it seems Karim Benzema has his reasons.
