“Everyone in 2019 looks like dennis rodman in 1996,” wrote an X user as they described the retired basketball and fashion icon’s influence. Reduced to a mere outcast and a common target back in the day, it’s rather recently that the world started appreciating Rodman’s statements. But for his daughter, USWNT’s star player, Trinity Rodman, her father was always a superstar.
Akin to her old man, Rodman seldom fails to take center stage by flaunting sensational fashion statements. When Team USA triumphed at the Olympics, many eyes were hooked on Rodman’s new hairstyle. Reminding fans of Megan Rapinoe during the 2019 World Cup, the Washington Spirit star notably colored her pink and well-kept dreadlocks. It wasn’t a coincidence, as Rodman later revealed a long discussion behind between her and Rapinoe before the choice.
As for her appreciation for her father, NBA is much more than just iconic Jordans. Trinity Rodman wasn’t any hesitant to hail her father as a wholesome fashion pioneer. During a recent interview, the young player stated, “I think he [Dennis Rodman] changed the game. I think he started that crazy out-there fashion in the NBA. People can disagree with me, and I’m probably biased.”

I mean, who doesn’t remember Dennis The Menace’s famous 1996 August appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman? Spray-dyed green hair, nails painted black, an unbuttoned floral burnout blouse, two nose piercings, and a chin piercing completed his look. Later, Rodman also helped Letterman elevate his look with the same hairdo.
Dennis Rodman made the dismantling of gender biases cool before it was cool. Once he even wore a woman’s wedding gown to promote his autobiography. But today, the five-time NBA champion’s fashion choices are remembered as classic examples of not conforming to gender stereotypes, which was further emphasized by his daughter.
The Washington Spirit star added, “But I just think what he did in his time…it shows today. He kind of also showed the world not to be afraid to express yourself in any type of way, if that’s masculine if that’s feminine…. You can do it, through fashion.”
During the interview, the Olympic gold medalist also revealed her mantra behind her own style statements and mentioned how genetics has a huge role to play in it.

Fans gushed at Trinity Rodman’s pink braids at the Olympics. Considering the wide variety of hairstyles Dennis Rodman had tried during his career, the USWNT striker couldn’t even hold a candle to him. Nonetheless, she makes sure her style stands out.
“I’d say my style is very loud, colorful, creative, and personal. I’m all over the board. I feel like I’ll wear whatever and somebody [inevitably] says, “Oh, that’s such a Trin outfit.” I’m, like, “I don’t know what that means!” But I do think there’s a vibe to it,” said Trinity Rodman in the same interview.
Thereafter, she mentioned that the former Pistons and Bulls legend has played a pivotal role in shaping her fashion ideas. “Whatever I find that looks cool, and whatever stands out, I am going to grab it. And that could be a genetic thing,” the Spirit star added.
