Even fans knew about the changes the sport needed for it to be better than before. Tennis legend Serena Williams was one of the names who suggests a change that would become a reality years later.

Serena Williams has been a big soccer fan for a long. She is fond of the game, and when she came to know about the mind-blowing performance of the USWNT. She was ready to invest millions in the sport and with her husband, Alexis Ohanian became the leading investor of Angel City FC a club that plays in NWSL.

Serena Williams suggested the latest rule years ago

Referees play a big role in the outcome of a game. One wrong decision or one missed call can change the potential outcome of the game. Almost every fan knew that something needs to be done about it. Referees needed some assistance to help them make good decisions.

Serena Williams made a Tweet in 2010 about how soccer needed a referral system in which referees would be able to get some help in making a decision. She wrote, “Ok soccer/football need official reviews!! Refs can’t see everything!! Review!!!”

This dream of hers would come true, eventually. However, it would take almost 8 years for that tweet to become a reality.

The VAR review became a reality in 2018 when the governing body International Football Association Board wrote it into the laws of the game. The setting became so popular in the recent FIFA world cup. It made it easy for the fans to interact with the game and for the Referees to make better decisions. However, this is not the only dream of Serena Williams that came true.

Williams talked about designing soccer dresses

Being a soccer fan, Serena Williams had once tweeted out how she wanted to make slight changes to the outfit of women soccer players of USWNT. Unbeknownst to her, in 2011 her dream would come true years later when she would play an important role in designing the kit of Angel City FC.
