While a great match was expected from Lionel Messi and Co., it unfortunately ended in a tragic loss. In fact, in an unexpected turn of events, instead of causing rage, the loss has ignited laughter among the Herons fanbase.
Additionally, prior to the match, the club organized a Noche d’Or ceremony as they paid tribute to Messi’s recent eighth Ballon d’Or win as he showcased his record prestigious award to everybody.

The first half ended with the away side taking an early lead. As the second half began, NYCFC doubled their lead. Notably, after a lot of changes, in the 81st minute, Robbie Robinson finally broke the deadlock for the Herons. Despite rallying for a comeback, neither Messi nor his teammates could clinch an equalizer, resulting in the match ending 2-1.
Interestingly, instead of being angry, the final scoreline has garnered a side-splitting response from the fans. This fan insists Miami can’t even win a friendly.

Shots were fired as Miami was dubbed the most embarrassing team in the MLS.
This is the most embarrassing team in the league. Imagine scheduling a friendly to celebrate the Ballon d’Or winner and not only do y’all lose, but Messi didn’t even score 😂

Miami seems to have lost an ardent fan after this loss.
That's it. I am no longer a Miami fan. I've been a Miami member since 1987 and a season ticket holder since 1999. I'm not going to renew my season ticket. Campana and Miller are outlawed as of today. I will become a fan of New York, where they know how to run a football club. pic.twitter.com/kKu81G1hH4

This fan insists on a new defense line. Clearly, Miami was vulnerable and could have conceded more.
The opposing team simply humiliated the defense. They could have scored well with 5 goals. Make hires.

This fan questions the club’s interest in bringing in 36-year-old Luis Suarez rather than defenders.
still focused on bringing old man suarez instead of proper defenders?

While this one wittingly claims it’s unfortunate that Messi plays for Miami.
A failed and funny team, unfortunately Messi plays for you

Indeed, the result is quite shocking, as despite having Messi at their disposal, the Herons couldn’t clinch a victory. Certainly, Tata Martino and his side must reflect on the loss. It is also ironic to see that just minutes ago, Messi was talking about glory during the speech he gave at the Noche d’Or ceremony.
Lionel Messi gave an inspiring speech at the Noche d’Or ceremony
Before the poor loss against NYCFC, Messi showcased his eighth Ballon d’Or in front of thousands present at the DRV PNK Stadium. After that, the player took the mic in his hands to extend his heartfelt thanks to all the Miami fans for their presence at the ceremony. “I’ve been here for a short period but it feels like a long time. I have no doubts that next year it’s going to be even better,” he said.
