Shakira’s song slamming her ex-partner is creating records

Shakira collaborated with Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap for the song, whose lyrics mock Pique. They composed the diss track last year in August after the couple announced their separation in June 2022. However, the Latin song released on Thursday, 11th January 2023, in its first 24 hours, has hit over 63 million views on YouTube. It is a record for any Latin song.

It didn’t stop here, as the song has already crossed 118 million views and is topping iTunes charts in the US, Mexico, and Italy. The song has been on the top of the charts on Spotify for three consecutive days, leaving the Hips Don’t Lie singer in awe. It has crossed 12 million streams on the music app already.

Shakira tweeted“Wow! Can’t believe this! Number one for three days!!? Thanks so much for the support.” The song lyrics take a dig at Gerard Pique, who left her for 23-year-old Clara Chia. The Colombian singer has made her feelings clear in the song.

However, this song has also been hit by plagiarism claims like Hips Don’t Lie. Venezuelan singer Briella claims the track sounds similar to her ‘Solo Tu’ song released in June last year. She thinks her composition inspired Shakira’s new track and feels the Colombian singer should give credit to her.

The singer mentions tax fraud in the lyrics of the track. It says, “You left me with my mother-in-law as a neighbor, with the press at my door and a debt to the taxman”. Authorities accused Shakira of six counts of tax fraud between 2012 to 2014. Spanish authorities want an eight-year prison sentence and around 25 million USD in fines from the Colombian singer.

Her fate over the tax accusations remains to be seen, but the diss track mocking ex-partner Pique is making rounds.
