Hence, taking a dig, Ince spoke to Mirror, saying, “You can’t be spending £60m on Casemiro. It’s just bad business. Great player that he is, that’s a lot of money on a player on the wrong side of 30. Antony, that’s a lot of money.”

Casemiro came after a successful stint at Real Madrid, but buying him for $70 million was not a masterstroke. The player had a reasonable first season with the club, with seven goals and seven assists. However, this season, he was struck by repeated injuries, sitting out for 17 games over three months.

Ince addressed this issue and suggested the management, along with the new stakeholders, should stop overpaying. Ince further said, “Jim Ratcliffe needs to look at how they do business and not let people force them to pay over the odds because they are desperate for some players.” The club also brought players like Andre Onana and Sofyan Amrabat, who also played under ten Hag earlier.

United’s main transfer mishaps apart from Casemiro

Onana’s misses, additionally, proved very costly for the team, as the club finished last in Group A of the Champions League. It was their worst-ever performance after they conceded 15 goals in six games. Amrabat, on the other hand, was also handed $10 million for a year after arriving on a loan from Fiorentina.

Ince also called out one of the biggest blunders by the club, saying, “You need a certain mentality. You need to be seven or eight out of ten every week. You can’t give substandard performances. Look at Antony, £89m and he hasn’t performed since he’s been there.” The former Ajax winger was estimated to be worth $32 million, yet United spent more than $80 million on him. The player has had a particularly minimal effect on the club this season, not even netting a single goal.
