Did Jesse Marsch's team really cheat against Messi's Argentina, or is this just sour grapes?

Now, Canada’s soccer federation is truly at its wit’s end. Canada women’s football coach Beverly Priestman has been banned from the remainder of the Paris Olympics over an alleged drone use scandal. As per the allegations, the Canadian women’s team used drones to spy on New Zealand’s training session before they beat them 2-1 in the Olympic opener. Aggravating the infamy surrounding Canada’s soccer federation, its CEO Kevin Blue admitted Canada’s men’s team used spying drones during the Copa America, and coach Jesse Marsch knew it after.

The Athletic’s Joshua Kloke recalled Canada soccer CEO, Kevin Blue’s cheating revelations in a recent CBS Sports Golazo episode. “Kevin Blue said he learned that there was attempted drone usage by a member of the men’s national team at Copa America. Yet that usage did not impact any results and the new national team coach Jesse Marsch only learned about the drone usage after the fact,” said Kloke.

Kevin Blue said elsewhere that he won’t dive deeper into the details of the alleged drone use scandal at the Copa. Furthermore, he indicated Marsch knew about the debacle afterward, suggesting the coach had refrained from mentioning it once he became aware.

Jesse Marsch, who was later aware of the attempted drone use in the US-hosted Copa, notably cleared the air surrounding the debacle. Here’s what Marsch told in the Canada MNT’s defense.

Kevin Blue also said that Jesse Marsch told him he denounces spying. He added Marsch did not think the drone use detrimentally impacted any of Canada’s rivals at the Copa. Canada notably had a lackluster group campaign with just one win, a loss, and a draw. The Copa quarter-final saw Marsch and co. survive the penalty shootout against Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Argentina beat Canada for the second time in the semis and Marsch’s side lost the third-place game to Uruguay in penalties. Seems like Marsch was not that far-fetched to say the alleged drone use failed to make an impact.

Nonetheless, it is not safe to say the Canada MNT is off the hook. On the other hand, Beverly Priestman’s side’s alleged drone use at the Olympics has invited the wrath of the New Zealand Federation and the Olympic committee.

Apparently, FIFA is launching an investigation against Priestman’s Canada WMNT. Now that their men’s squad’s Copa antics are out, FIFA might look into the Jesse Marsch-linked debacle as well.
