Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been getting bragging rights like no other since they purchased Wrexham AFC. After two promotions in a row, the Welsh club returned to the more competitive English Football League One and is dominating it from the start. The Red Dragons are riding on top of the table, three points clear of the second seed. But, big bettors and even the club’s faithful failed to foresee this trail-blazing start.
They expected Wrexham to struggle on the bigger stage and thought that a mere playoff qualification was equal to a win for the side. With Wrexham yet to see a loss in League One, McElhenney confidently said that its players do not even acknowledge what the naysayers say about the club. “Fortunately enough that the players do not listen to any of the prognosticators or the supporters or their family members they go out and win and they believe that they can win they believe they can win the league,” said Rob McElhenney during his recent appearance on the Men in Blazers podcast.

Walking the walk since the last two seasons, the Always Sunny in Philadelphia star iterated that his focus as Wrexham owner is to win every game. He’s also thankful that the players resonate with his mentality. “It’s really funny to to listen to all the prognosticators and Vegas all the oddsmakers and all the sports talk people who really had us about mid-table,” McElhenney continued, celebrating Wrexham’s top-seeded run. Thereafter, the Dragons co-owner touched up on his motto for the club, which means nothing but business.

Rob McElhenney said that Wrexham fans would jump with joy if the club survived enough to make the playoff in the League. Anyhow, McElhenney also thinks it is in a way good to have less hype. “Everybody I’d talk to even supporters would say that they would be very happy with squeaking into the playoffs that would be considered a win,” said McElhenney. “I think it’s always good to under-promise and over-deliver,” he added.

The Welsh side’s owner also mentioned that gaining another promotion is not the club’s only goal. He, Reynolds, and others want to build a sustainable club that leaves its legacy on future generations. Besides investing in the club’s infrastructure and academy, the Hollywood star also believes that the club’s urge to win all games is key to sustainability.
