The USWNT has a lot of expectations riding on their shoulders. The side will kick-start their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign tonight as they take on the Dominican Republic in their opening fixture. However, the side wants to leave nothing for granted as they brought one of their biggest names back into the mix for the tournament. Former skipper Alex Morgan has been named the injury replacement for Chelsea star Mia Fishel, who has been ruled out of the tournament after picking up an ACL tear.

It is a surprising turn of developments, as Morgan was initially absent from the USWNT squad, leaving fans puzzled at the team management’s decision. However, with the squad currently going through a transitional phase, it will be interesting to see if Morgan can find her place amongst the superstars of tomorrow!

Alex Morgan is back in the fray for the CONCACAF Gold Cup

Chelsea star forward Mia Fishel has every right to be disappointed with the player rupturing her ligament just hours before USWNT’s opening fixture in the Gold Cup. The striker picked up the injury during the team’s last training session and had to be taken immediately off the field. According to reports, Fishel will return to England, where a specialist will assess the extent of the injury. After that, she will start her rehabilitation alongside Chelsea’s medical staff at Cobham.
