Erling Haaland is quietly enjoying another great season. The Manchester City man is top of the Premier League scoring charts and his performances have helped the team stay top toppers. Despite, scoring a lot of goals, Haaland has occasionally faced questions regarding his all-round play with Rio Ferdinand even claiming that Alexander Isak is a more well-rounded striker. The latest to take a swipe at the Norwegian is a former Brazilian legend who claims that he could break Haaland’s records. A tall claim, but is there any substance to it?
Ever since his move from Borussia Dortmund, the lethal striker has taken English soccer by storm. His performances helped Manchester City complete a historic treble. Currently, the PFA player of the year is injured while on international duty and manager Pep Guardiola would be hoping to have his talisman back as soon as possible.

In a recent interview, Luis Fabiano caused a stir with his take on Erling Haaland. The former striker said, “I would also break all the records that Haaland has. With that team there, with the opportunities he has? I would still break his record“. It seems that Fabiano believes that playing in such a strong team is inflating the Norwegian’s numbers. He has also questioned his technical ability by saying, “Now, do ‘one, two’ with him”. Manchester City does have players like Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva to put chances on a plate for the lethal striker.
Fabiano has also seemingly questioned the efficiency of Erling Haaland. As per Fabiano, he needs a lot of chances to score a goal. He also highlighted the difference between himself and Haaland. Fabiano said, “Haaland has 30 opportunities and scores 3 goals. If I had 30 opportunities, I would score 10 or 20 goals. That’s the difference.”
While he might not possess the technical skills of Karim Benzema or Luis Suarez, crediting Manchester City alone for his success isn’t fair. Haaland has been prolific in each team he has played in.
Luis Fabiano: "Eu também quebraria todos os recordes que o Haaland tem. Com aquele time lá, com as oportunidades que ele tem? Eu quebraria o recorde dele ainda. Agora, faz 'um, dois' com ele."
Benja: "Ele marcou 3 hat-tricks em 3 jogos consecutivos."

Will missing out on Euro 2024 affect Haaland’s Ballon d’Or chances?
Despite a treble-winning season and 50+ goals, Erling Haaland finished runner-up to Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or race. A key reason for Messi’s win was the 2022 FIFA World Cup victory. A tournament in which the lethal striker couldn’t participate. Norway also missed out on Euro 2024 participation after Romania’s victory over Israel.

In spite of the encouraging performances shown by youngsters like Oscar Bobb, Norway still has some way to go before they can compete with other top nations. With both Messi and Ronaldo out of Europe, Haaland’s main rival for individual awards will be Kylian Mbappe. The PSG star has the benefit of playing for an elite France team which could end up impacting Haaland’s chances to win the biggest individual accolade for a soccer player unless Manchester City continues winning trebles year in and year out.
