We have seen a lot of stories with two sides of the same coin. In this instance, however, it is about the same side of two different coins altogether. Two extremely different people from different backgrounds collided at a single point called soccer. Nothing resembles them physically nor allocates them to team up, yet they can be on the same side but on a different bubble. Such is the story of legends of soccer: Neymar Jr. and David Beckham, as felt by a Brazilian journalist.

The media gives extensive coverage to players who have achieved the highest honors, like the World Cup or the Ballon d’Or. Some go under the radar by just missing out on them. Maybe these two did not win these, but the joy they brought on the pitch needs a mention.

A Brazilian journalist recently came up with interesting thoughts on the similarities between Neymar and David Beckham’s careers in a thread on X (formerly Twitter). From career to accolades, it will definitely make you wonder if it is destiny or emulation.

Both of them at one time represented their countries, Brazil and England, as talismans. During their time with the national teams, both countries were a force to be reckoned with in the soccer world, favorites to win the World Cup. But guess what? Destiny did not allow either of them to get that magical piece of gold.

Another major and astonishing fact that joins them is their treble win. Both players won the treble for their respective teams at least once in their respective careers. Laying aside just winning, both contributed majorly to their teams winning the trebles. David Beckham curled two significant corners at the stoppage time in the finals of the 1999 Champions League leading to clutch goals. Neymar also scored a stoppage-time goal in the 2015 Champions League final to seal the victory for FC Barcelona.

A few things that bond their life may be minor, but for them to have so much in common gives us a reason to believe they’re knit together. Beckham and Neymar both played for Paris Saint-Germain. No wonder the club signed people with high reputations to boost their brand. Adding to the list is their desire to be back in Europe, David Beckham went back for a small stint at AC Milan. Neymar expressed his desire to be a part of Barcelona once he finishes the two-year contract at Al Hilal.

Although it was surprising to see such homologies, there is one contrasting story. Beckham, while playing for Manchester United, had all the limelight and went to Real Madrid to cool down on that front. However, Neymar joined PSG to gain some prominence after being under the shadow of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at FC Barcelona.
