Gareth Southgate could smile to his fullest, now that Bukayo Saka has powered England to a win in the former’s 100th game as a coach and earned the team a berth in Euro’s final four. Meanwhile, worries have not left the Englishmen, as their skipper Harry Kane’s physical condition could jeopardize the Three Lions’ remaining campaign at the UEFA Euros.
Kane battled with Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji during the game for the ball, only to be bumped off the pitch to collide with Southgate on the sidelines. The English coach did not waste a moment and immediately sidelined the skipper who took a heavy fall.
While the fans are eager to know if Harry Kane is suffering an injury, the captain himself has lifted the lid on his physical condition. “I’m fine. I had a bit of cramp after tripping over the water bottles, both calves cramped,” said Kane in a post-game presser, as compiled by The Telegraph.

Gareth Southgate replaced Kane with Brentford ace Ivan Toney- a master of penalty kicks. Toney’s substitution proved fruitful for the Three Lions at death, as scored the penalty from the spot. After speaking of his cramped calf muscles, Kane spent a moment to praise Toney. “He came on and did the job,” said Kane referring to the Brentford star.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane, in an interesting take, observed that he is perhaps a lucky charm for England to watch the penalty shootout from the sidelines.

Harry Kane had déjà vu, as England beat Switzerland in penalties
The last time an England-Switzerland game went into penalties was in the 2019 UEFA Nations League’s third-place playoffs. Incidentally, Southgate had substituted Harry Kane before the final whistle at that time and he had to watch England win penalties from the sidelines, like today. The English captain recalled this interesting episode after speaking about his injury. “We had a penalty shootout before against Switzerland in the Nations League and that was the only other one I’ve been watching from the touchline. Might be a little good-luck charm! We trust in whoever is on the pitch,” said Kane.
England next plays the winner of the Netherlands-Turkiye quarterfinals on July 10th. Since there is a gap of four days for this decisive tie, it is quite likely that the English skipper would easily recover from his calf muscle cramps and deliver for the Lions. Kane has notably scored twice for England this Euro. Only time will tell if he could take the tally higher.
