TBT will hold a unique soccer tournament in the US this year in June. The tourney, named The Soccer Tournament (TST), will be a seven-a-side event with 32 teams from around the world participating. Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s team Wrexham AFC have registered for the tournament. Reportedly, Wrexham has named Reynolds on its roster for the tournament.

So far, 21 teams have registered for the event, and recently Premier League giants confirmed their presence for the tournament. The winner of the event takes all the prize money, $1 million. They will play it from June 1 to June 4. The group stages will take place on June and June 2. A round of 16 will follow it on June 2.

Quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on June 3. They will decide on the winner on June 4, the ultimate day of the event. It will be interesting to see which top teams join Wrexham AFC and Wolverhampton Wanderers for TST.

Premier League giants join Wrexham in TST

The Premier League giants Wolves confirmed their participation in the tournament last month. It will be a unique tournament that will follow a World Cup-like structure. Apart from Wolves, Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund will also participate in the special event. Wolves will participate in the event with the club legends’ team.

Wolves general manager Russell Jones said, “Taking part in innovative tournaments in the USA is deep-rooted in our history. Back in 1967, we were founders and champions of one of the first soccer tournaments on American soil–competing in the United Soccer Association, under the name of the Los Angeles Wolves.”

Jones added, “It’s been a pleasure working with the TST team so far and I speak for everyone at Wolves when I say we are all looking forward to competing and seeing our many US-based fans at the tournament in June.” 

Teams confirmed so far for TST

To date, 21 teams have registered for the TST. There are still 11 spots left. Some prominent names include Team Dempsey (A team owned by former USMNT star Clint Dempsey), Wrexham AFC, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Borussia Dortmund, Hashtag United, Dallas United, and Charlotte FC, amongst others.

Each game will consist of two 20-minute halves. The target score time will follow the two halves. If teams are drawing, the team with the next goal wins. If a team is leading by, say 2-1, a target score will be three, and the team that achieves it first will win the game. It looks like a unique competition.
