Wayne Rooney‘s nightmare at Birmingham City has finally come to an end. The Englishman failed to deliver on the hype with the team owners sacking him in less than three months following his appointment. While the decision to appoint Rooney last year in October raised multiple eyebrows, fans willingly gave him a chance. However, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan was never sold on the move, as he slammed the team’s decision to appoint Rooney, claiming it was just a publicity stunt.
Notably, Rooney had a disastrous time at the club. Birmingham City, with the ex-Manchester United star at the helm, sank from 6th to 20th in the points table. The team failed to generate momentum during the Englishman’s time at the club, winning just two out of their fifteen games under their new manager.

Jordan, while talking to TalkSport, stated, “There was nothing about this that smacked of anything other than some form of autograph hunting! There is nothing particular about this circumstance that surprised me. This is on the owners, by the way, this is on the owners!”
He added, “You got the former chief executive of Man City sitting next to you advocating the appointment of a manager who’s got a 27% win rate in the MLS. What are you supposed to do when your chief executive who is supposed to give you the football elite’s intellectual capital is advocating for a move that most sensible people in football would go: What the hell is that about?”
