Neymar garnered attention for the second time in the transfer window. The first instance came six years back when he made a record-breaking move to Paris. PSG paid a world record $242 million in fees for the services of the former FC Barcelona superstar. The ultimate aim was to build a UEFA Champions League-winning squad around the Brazilian. However, the former Santos prodigy never provided the required leadership.

Now his move to Al Hilal has attracted criticism from a renowned French journalist. While berating Neymar, Riolo likened his flop PSG stint with Lionel Messi. He tweeted, Neymar will have been the biggest flop in the club’s history … a match with Messi. But then his resale!!! What a feat! The Saudi market is ideal for destocking. We won at Monopoly with Lecourbe and Belleville!” as translated by DeepL. Riolo likened it to a dismal Lionel Messi stint in Paris.

Even Messi never clicked in Paris, turning the fans against him. But unlike Messi, Neymar left for transfer fees. The journalist feels bagging around $90 million for Neymar was a significant business from PSG. Messi came for free and left for free. Riolo also slammed the Saudi league by labeling it the one for ‘destocking.’

It seems the ages of the stars leading to Saudi Arabia have garnered attention. Many believed it was a retirement league with an opportunity to make one’s pockets big. However, a few transfers like, Ruben Neves (26), Jota (24), and Malcom (26), changed the perception. However, later it turned out to be the league to dump out unwanted players.

Chelsea did it in a better way. The Londoners embarked on a new journey under a new manager who has sold several players not in the manager’s plan for significant sums. PSG achieved it by selling Neymar for enormous fees. But it might not be the end, as the Saudi transfer window will be open till September 20. On the other hand, the European window ends on August 31, and Jurgen Klopp has already shared his concerns about it.
