After Vlatko Andonovski left the USWNT, Twila Kilgore took charge of the USWNT until Emma Hayes joined the party. It would be fair to say she did a fine job in managing the USWNT with a 10-1-3 record. But the USWNT assistant coach decided to part ways with the national team. It’s no secret to understand it’s Emma Hayes team now and Kilgore wants to “pursue other coaching opportunities.”
The U.S. Soccer announced Kilgore’s resignation on Tuesday after taking over the reins from August 2023. After Andonovski resigned following the humiliating Round of 16 exit at the 2023 World Cup, Kilgore brought harmony to the squad. With her respectful tenure ending at USWNT, the national team applauded her service on social media. On X, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team stated, “After serving as USWNT interim head coach and an assistant coach for our gold medal-winning run this summer, Twila Kilgore is departing U.S. Soccer to pursue other coaching opportunities.”

She won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2024 on the list of honors for the USWNT. Moreover, the coach also posted a heartwarming statement regarding her exit from the national team.
She stated, “Being part of this program is something I dreamt of for as long as I can recall. This experience has proven to be a bigger blessing than I could have ever imagined. I will cherish it all. THANK YOU!!! I am excited for the future of this program, and also to get started on my own next steps in the football landscape. But first…a slowing down. Rest and family time.”
Nevertheless, Hayes has Kilmore to thank for as the latter laid the foundations for what the former Chelsea manager could achieve with the USWNT.

After having a disappointing World Cup, Kilmore brought stability and coaching experience to the table. The squad was in disarray and multiple changes had to be implemented. With Emma Hayes staying at Chelsea until the end of the 2024 season before she joined USWNT, the two were in constant contact with what they needed from the team. Even though Hayes took charge of USWNT just 2 months prior to the Olympics, both coaches knew the plans they had.
