Andre Onana was arguably the signing of the summer for Manchester United. Onana’s key attribute lies in playing out from the back and negating the opposition’s pressure. Fans believed that this signing would finally enable Ten Hag to showcase the soccer style displayed at Ajax.
Despite United’s mixed start, Onana impressed everyone and has emerged as a vital part of implementing Ten Hag’s possession-based style. His point-blank save against Erling Haaland showcased his cat-like reflexes. However, recently Onana has confirmed his participation in the AFCON, set to start on January 13.
Depending on Cameroon’s progress in the tournament, Onana could miss up to seven club games.

Will Manchester United turn to club legend to solve the goalkeeping crisis?
While Altay Bayindir seems the logical choice, there are rumors surrounding the return of David de Gea. His recent post on X doesn’t help the matter, either. The 2023 Golden Glove winner is surprisingly a free agent this season. A player with De Gea’s experience and knowledge would be perfect, considering the current environment at the club. However, it is not sure if this is a move that will materialize.
How big a blow would losing Onana be? Or does Manchester United have other substantial issues to worry about? Let us know in the comments below.
