The twists and turns of soccer transfers continue this summer. Amid the tussle between Saudi and Europe, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami is also in contention for some big players. However, the most exciting one is the reunion of former Real Madrid ace Angel Di Maria and Messi. After the star’s contract expires in June, the fans expect a potential transfer to Inter Miami. However, it seems like heavy competition has posed a threat to the American club’s ambitions.

It’s quite impressive to see the demand Di Maria is having despite being at the latter stages of his career. According to reports, Benfica wants to renew the Argentine’s contract, and a meeting looks inevitable. Nevertheless, Di Maria will decide where he wants to plant his feet despite requests from both sides. The right winger had a decent run this season, scoring 17 goals and producing 15 assists. However, missing the Liga Portuga after finishing second to Sporting CP, Aguias will want to give another shot with the 36-year-old.

On the other hand, talks of Di Maria’s move to Inter Miami have been stirred up lately. Reports yesterday suggested that Fideo agreed on financial terms with David Beckham’s club, and there are chances of him landing there in June or July. But with Benfica stepping in, things can turn out either way as the ball is in the Argentine’s court. However, Di Maria’s passion for his older clubs is undeniable.

A link-up with Lionel Messi or a revisit to his past club?

Meanwhile, Di Maria has already decided to hang his international boots after the 2024 Copa America. Whether that could affect his decision is yet to be seen, as he can no longer compliment Lionel Messi on the national team. The 2014 UCL winner has potentially been the most important player for Messi’s international portfolio.

The former Rosario Central player scored match-winning goals in all the major tournament finals that Messi won, including the 2022 World Cup and the 2021 Copa America. In addition, they both had a small spell at Paris Saint-Germain winning the Ligue Un together, which gives a substantial reason for a reunion.

Likewise, Angel Di Maria rejected huge offers from Saudi last year to join the 38-time Portuguese champions on a 1-year deal but chose to go to Portugal. In addition, Di Maria has a dream of retiring from his boyhood club Rosario Central, which was jeopardized by threats from criminal elements in the city, forcing him to reconsider his future. Nevertheless, the time for a decision is soon approaching. With a few options remaining for the player, will he choose Inter Miami or return to his previous clubs? Let us know in the comments.
