There’s a new player in the transfer market. Aside from Europe and America, Saudi Arabia seems to have become a new destination for soccer’s notable stars. As many sign for the domestic rivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, the soccer fraternity continues to bash the Middle Eastern involvement. But Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino feels that it is happening for the good of the sport.

Soccer fanatics believe the Gulf countries are destroying the beautiful game with their financial muscle. Even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his concern. However, Chelsea’s new boss begs to differ.

While the whole soccer fanbase condemns it, Pochettino has a rather different ideology. When asked about Saudi Arabia’s dominance, he said, “I think it’s good, in football, for players, and for coaches also, and for this business that is football.” Speaking during the pre-match press conference for his side’s clash against Liverpool, Pochettino insists such situations are very normal.

The Argentinian believes it’s rather “a thing to improve and evolve,” but agrees it has created quite a drama. He continued, “But come on, it’s football; we need to enjoy footballer emotions. We need to ensure what we are doing, but of course, when money is involved, sometimes it looks like a drama, but you need to have a good balance.”

The former Spurs coach believes everyone needs to find a “good balance,” as the players play with their talents. “We need to try to be responsible to protect the talent of them to let them feel free to go there to the pitch, to enjoy the game, to give everything to create a good spectacle for the fans and for the fans to enjoy and then to win. Because if not, yes, it will be drama we’re going to win.”

Indeed, these are some eyebrow-raising claims from the new Chelsea boss, especially, quite different from what the other manager reckons about the Saudi Pro League.

Premier League managers oppose domestic League of Cristiano Ronaldo

Earlier, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insisted “UEFA or FIFA must find solutions” about Saudi Arabia’s transfer deadline. Apparently, their market closes on September 20, compared to the European market, which closes on August 30. This implies that Gulf clubs have the opportunity to approach European players, and if these players agree to the offers, the clubs will be restricted from signing replacements until January.

In fact, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted that even after no one thought anyone would follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps, the majority of stars eventually went there. He also issued a warning, stating that “clubs need to be aware.” Indeed, some coaches are already aware of the threats that the SPL poses. But it seems the exodus won’t be stopping anytime soon.
