Cristiano Ronaldo surprised the soccer community after his move to the Saudi Pro League. Many thought that money was the biggest motivator behind the transfer. In this case, a two year contract worth a mammoth $500 million. Others, however, felt that Ronaldo wanted to spend more time with family. On this note, Roma loyalist, Francesco Totti, has given his opinion on the Saudi League and the European exodus.

Saudi clubs are likely going to invest more and more money on marquee signings in the next transfer windows. The onus is now on European clubs and their players to resist these lucrative offers. In the meantime, the owners of the clubs are already preparing a list of players for the January transfer window.

Saudi Pro League has gotten plenty of attention this season after they invested north of a billion dollars in the transfer market. The league, most notably, signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Neymar, for huge salaries. However, Roma loyalist Francesco Totti is not happy with the spending of Saudi clubs and also the ambition of players.

Francesco Totti speaking to Marca said, The difference between this football and mine is that before there was more passion, more love for the team, more willingness to be in the same club and give it respect. Now, the kids go where they can pay the most.”

The Roma legend has also given his opinion of 21-year-old Gabriel Viega playing in the Saudi League. He said,I would never have imagined being able to take such a step in my career, but, as I said before, now people think more about things other than pure football. I don’t criticize him.”

The league organizers have also made the point that players are happy with the money coming in. They also have no problem with the quality of the league or playing in the country. However, the league does not want to stop. The organizers want to take soccer to another level with the involvement of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Saudi League hopes to become bigger and better with the involvement  of Cristiano Ronaldo

The cash-rich league does not aim to stop any time soon. They are reportedly ready to invest more money to sign players. Soccer is currently the most-watched sport in Saudi Arabia. And so, the organizers feel that this is the right time to develop the league and the sport in the country. Cristiano Ronaldo is already ready to spend the rest of his playing career in the Saudi Pro League.

Al Nassr is already preparing a mega-contract offer to extend Ronaldo’s stay. The Portuguese star is also playing and scoring regularly for the national team. This sends a message that signing for the Saudi League is not the end of the international career for the players.
