Did BBC cross the line with their Ronaldo posts during Portugal vs. France? Share your thoughts!

It seems like Cristiano Ronaldo‘s luck might have left his side this summer. The Portuguese skipper has been struggling for his national outfit this summer with the player yet to find his first goal during the Euros 2024. His performance during the ongoing Quarterfinals clash against France might have been one of his shoddiest displays so far in the competition.

Despite most of Portugal playing attacking football, Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled to see much of the ball with the player finding just 11 touches against France in the first half. In comparison, even France’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan had more (12) touches than him in the contest. While BBC decided to use those stats for a social media post, their actions did not sit down well with Cristiano fans who called the media outlet out for discriminating against the Al Nassr superstar.

Many fans were unhappy with BBC pointing out Cristiano Ronaldo’s shortcomings against France. One fan claimed the media outlet was biased against the Portuguese superstar as they did not make any post for Harry Kane during his poor outing against Slovakia. The English captain had a torrid time against Slovakia in the Round of 16 where he failed to show his presence for most of the first half.

One fan pointed out how Ronaldo didn’t play well and mentioned the BBC as a “disgusting institution.”

Another fan claimed the outlet has no sense of football as Cristiano Ronaldo is not a midfielder and people need to keep his total touches calculated. While the statement might have come out of frustration, having 12 touches for a player in any position is not a good outlook.

One fan agreed with BBC’s take claiming Cristiano Ronaldo was past his prime and Portugal would be a better side if they left him on the sidelines. The Portuguese skipper could not make the most of his chances this summer with the player still looking for his first goal of the competition.

One fan claimed the media outlet was trying to show Cristiano’s shortcomings as it was the only way for them to gather people’s attention.

One fan claimed while Cristiano hasn’t been at his best during the Euros, the team does not have better players to operate the game which makes CR7 an easy target. Considering his reputation, the Portuguese skipper is surely easily criticised but then again fans expect a lot from you if you are amongst the best players in the world.
