Uruguay forward Luis Suarez is all set to join the Brazilian club Gremio as a free agent. There were approaches for the ex-Barcelona man from the MLS club, but he rejected the move. Suarez becomes the second big star after Cristiano Ronaldo to snub the MLS move in recent times.

The ex-Liverpool forward was plying his trade at his boyhood Club Nacional after signing in 2022 summer. He left Atletico Madrid at the end of the season of 2021-22 to join the Uruguayan club and won the Uruguayan league. Not only that an MLS club approached him, but Suarez also had a proposal from the Saudi Arabian club.

According to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Suarez has signed a two-year deal with the Brazilian club Gremio. It will be the seventh club of the career after having played for European giants like Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.

Gremio will expect Suarez to shine and help them to get to the first division again. Gremio was relegated only four seasons after winning Copa Libertadores. Suarez will join his former Liverpool teammate Lucas Leiva at Gremio.
In the process of signing for Gremio, Suarez snubbed two big money offers. A host of clubs were interested in the services of a former Nacional star. Suarez also had a chance to rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Arabian league as one of Al Nassr’s rivals also offered the Uruguayan a big salary.

It would have proved to be a good move for the Saudi Arabian league and the Asian soccer had Suarez accepted the offer. Although the player rejected the Brazilian club before the FIFA World Cup, but eventually ended up signing for them on 31st December 2022 for two years.
A glance at Luis Suarez’s career
El Pistolero started his career at Nacional in the 2005-06 season. After spending a season there, Suarez moved to Europe to play for the Dutch club Groningen at 19. He attracted the Dutch giant Ajax and joined them for four seasons.
In his last game with Ajax, the player bites the opposition player and was banned for seven games. While serving a ban, Suarez signed for Liverpool in 2011 before moving to FC Barcelona in 2014. The stint at Barcelona is the highest point of his career as the player won 13 major trophies, including four La Liga and one UEFA Champions League.

Suarez then made a move to the La Liga club, Atletico Madrid, and helped them win a La Liga title before moving back to Nacional. He will now play for Gremio in the Brazilian second division, and the fans will hope Suarez inspires the promotion to the first division.
