It seems like Gerard Pique‘s claims about FC Barcelona might be coming true. The former Barca center back once remarked that the Catalan giants soon would not be able to take part in European competitions for violating Financial Fair Play regulations. According to journalist Tim Rohn, FC Barcelona could face a ban from the prestigious tournament for “several years.” The potential ban stems from their violation of the Financial Fair Play regulations. Over the past few years, the Spanish side has embarked on a spending spree. However, all the extravagant signings have left the club saddled with a staggering debt of over a billion dollars.

UEFA has cast doubts over Barcelona’s compliance with the Financial Fair Play rules as they consider their balance sheets to be a whitewash. And if these reports are to be believed, Xavi‘s side may not be able to play in the Champions League from the 2024/25 season onwards.

The Champions League is viewed as the pinnacle of club soccer, and the absence of Barcelona from the competition would undoubtedly be a blow to their aspirations. However, no official confirmation has been made at this point. In the interim, Barca will undoubtedly be directing their attention towards their ongoing Champions League campaign.
