Is Trinity Rodman the future face of women's soccer, or is the hype too much too soon?

Understanding the broader picture is what separates the good from the best. It was scintillating to watch Trinity Rodman produce match-winning performances to propel the USA to gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with 4 goal contributions. But more impressively, she has nurtured immense maturity and her attitude after a triumphant spell at the Games is a simple reflection. Despite flying high, Rodman has now revealed her selfless mission that assures you that soccer is in safe hands with a focus on the women’s game.

Stardom is not new for the 21-year-old American growing up as the daughter of legendary basketball rebounding star, Dennis Rodman. Trinity chose to follow her path with soccer and now wants to be a selfless contributor to the institution she represents, ‘women’s soccer,’ according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. She stated, “For me, in terms of, like, being a star, whatever, I don’t really think of it like that,” despite helping USWNT win gold in Paris with three important goals.

Further revealing her prime ambition Rodman said, “Yeah, attention is nice, but at the same time, I feel like I use that as like a way to connect with more and more people, and a way to draw more eyes to the women’s game,” emphasizing how her Olympic spell can push women’s soccer forward.

It looks like Trinity Rodman is having one of the best times of her career until now. Hence, the star did not miss the opportunity to get back with Washington Spirit despite her attacking partners, Mallory Swanson, and Sophia Smith, having chosen to rest amid the return of NWSL. The 22-year-old did not seem to have enough at the Olympics and added another goal to her tally against KC Current. Rodman scored Spirit’s goal with a left-footed shot and was seen celebrating with a little dance.

The striker has already made a name for herself with her incredible achievements and contributions. Rodman won the Rookie of the Year in 2021 NWSL, helping Spirit win the competition. She also played a vital role in the final of the Cup providing an assist to Kelly O’Hara in the 97th minute sealing glory. This time she helped USWNT by scoring the only goal against a strong Japanese defense in the quarterfinals of their journey.

However, attention will shift to 2027, when Emma Hayes and her team will be expected to overcome the disappointment of 2023. Moreover, Rodman will be aware that she has a long way to catch up with the greats like Mia Hamm, Carli Lloyd, and Megan Rapinoe. Only time will reveal whether she will stand the test of the best.
