As soccer fans, we always tend to have a list of our favorite players. There are always discussions about an ultimate team that includes the best players for every position. But what interests fans more is when a professional player or coach names such a team. Wrexham AFC boss Phil Parkinson did the same recently while answering the club fans.

His selection raised a few eyebrows as the team was full of legends, with no place for this generation of superstars. Let us inspect Parkinson’s selection in a five-a-side team.

Phil Parkinson led the Red Dragons to the Vanarama National League title, with EFL League Two the ultimate prize. The former Sunderland manager has a knack for taking teams to higher leagues. It was the fourth promotion achieved by Parkinson during his managerial career. Parkinson helped Colchester United in getting a promotion to Championship (the second division of English soccer) in the 2005-06 season.

In the 2012-13 season, Parkinson helped Bradford City to win playoffs to secure promotion to EFL League One. In his first season as Bolton Wanderers’ coach, he took them to the Championship in the 2016-17 season. And seven seasons later, he took Wrexham to the EFL League Two. After a title-winning season, Parkinson met with Dragon fans and answered their questions.

One fan asked Parkinson to name his all-time five-a-side team. “It has to be Peter Schmeichel in goal. He was unbeatable, the best goalkeeper I’ve ever seen,”

Parkinson started. “I’d put Keegan in there. Bryan Robson, captain marvel,” he added. “I’d go with Alan Shearer up top. I best think of a couple of defenders too…Stuart Pearce. He used to score goals from left-back. Alan Hansen was a great player to watch as he always liked to bring the ball out from the back,” Parkinson rounded off his team.

That’s some team full of legends who played for the best Premier League clubs.
