Out of this gigantic sum; the London-based side has paid nearly a quarter of that sum to fellow Premier League side Brighton itself. Truly astounding right? When there is a massive influx of cash like this; it’s very easy to mismanage them. However, Brighton with their smart work has managed to use this cash to holistically improve the club. Brighton’s major transfer dealing with The Blues started last year with the purchase of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella for $76.31 million. Chelsea then signed Graham Potter from Brighton by paying a buyout clause of $25.5 million. Fast forward to this season and the Stamford Bridge side have purchased Moises Caicedo and goalkeeper Robertson Sanchez for a combined fee of $178 million. While the sum that Brighton has received from Chelsea in the last 12 months is impressive; what’s more eye-catching is how they have used the cash for their own good.

For starters; the Seagulls primarily used this money to improve their infrastructure by building their New Amex stadium and training center. They then used the cash to improve Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi’s training staff by making multiple additions. Meanwhile, they also made smart player replacements by investing in South America’s brightest talents for a combined fee of just $16.3 million. What’s impressive is the fact that despite major outgoings; the Seagulls don’t seem to have missed a step as they started off their Premier League campaign in their usual dominating self!

While Chelsea’s dealing with Brighton has proven to be beneficial for the latter; the Seagulls are not big admirers of the Blues. This sentiment was noticed after Moises Caicedo turned down Liverpool for The Blues which clearly irked the Brighton management.

Brighton management was unimpressed with Caicedo’s decision to join Chelsea

The transfer of Moises Caicedo from Brighton to Chelsea has unquestionably provided the most captivating transfer saga this window. Although negotiations commenced nearly two months ago, it was only last week that the deal was ultimately confirmed. Even at that point, the potential destination for the player fluctuated as Liverpool entered the scene late, threatening Chelsea’s plans.

Liverpool’s involvement progressed significantly, almost finalizing the deal until Caicedo had a change of heart at the eleventh hour. This decision frustrated Brighton’s CEO, leading him to publicly express his dissatisfaction with the outcome. He also critiqued the player for selecting Chelsea over the Merseyside-based club.

“Liverpool is a fantastic football club, for any footballer to have a chance to play at Anfield, you’d imagine they would be running up the M6 and M62 but it wasn’t to be,” Paul Barber told talkSPORT. “Moises and his advisors, for whatever reason, decided London was their preferred destination and ultimately Chelsea. Obviously, in that situation, we’re in a slightly difficult position because we negotiated a deal, we spent many days working with Liverpool to get a deal agreed and they couldn’t have done any more.”
