Wrexham fans have every reason to celebrate as the club confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo earlier tonight. This is a massive breakthrough for the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney co-owned side, with the club in negotiations with Okonkwo for the last four weeks. The former Arsenal star was on loan at Racecourse last season, where he put on sublime performances to help the club clinch promotion to League One.

With Okonkwo’s deal with Arsenal expiring this summer, multiple clubs were keen on signing the free agent. However, it seems like Wrexham have managed to keep hold of the player, thanks to their ties with the Englishman. Wrexham was quite keen on getting a deal done with the player as he was on top of Phil Parkinson’s priority list.

Arthur Okonkwo touched down on penning a new deal with the club after he was officially unveiled as a Wrexham player. The goalkeeper stated, “I’m feeling very good, I’m so happy to have finally signed and I can’t wait to get back to it. It was amazing last season.”

The keeper then added, “We had so many good memories together with the fans, and knowing they wanted me back was a big reason that I’m back. It’s good to finally be here. This is home, it’s felt like that since last season when I came in. The co-chairmen are so good, the manager, the coaches, the players, and obviously the backroom staff that you don’t see. It’s so good to be here.” 

With Arthur Okonkwo’s deal now done, Wrexham will look to keep pushing for top players during the transfer window as the team looks to pull up a fighting squad in their first season in League One in over two decades.
