The ongoing Copa America 2024 is bound to just four teams now. In the first semifinal clash, we will witness the second installment of the tournament’s opening fixture between Argentina and Canada. The match is set to take place at the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. A win in this knockout fixture will see either side get their ticket to the finale.
Both sides made it to the last four via penalty shootout. Speaking of Argentina, Lionel Scaloni’s side enters this match with a hard-fought win over Ecuador. An early goal from Lisandro Martinez was denied by La Tricolor with the game eventually heading to the penalties. Skipper Lionel Messi tantalizingly missed it but the rest of the players, especially Emiliano Martinez, gave a clutch performance in the shootout 4-2.
Similar was the case with Canada, who are also coming off with a similar win against Venezuela. The Cannuks’ lead in the 13th minute was equalized in the latter half, with either side failing to find the winner. Luckily, Jesse Marsch and Co. came out on top with a 4-3 win in the penalties over La Vinotinto. Interestingly, if Canada defeats Argentina, they will become the second CONCACAF team to make it to the final.

Argentina vs Canada: Injuries and predicted line-ups
Argentina: Lionel Messi injury update
Lionel Messi returned against Ecuador after missing the final group stage clash against Peru due to a sore hamstring. While it seemed there wasn’t any injury scare surrounding the 37-year-old, the skipper made a concerning claim in the previous post-match interview. “I was feeling much better. There may be a slight psychological worry when you suffer from an injury or discomfort,” he said.
The Inter Miami acknowledged that he played the quarter-final clash with a ‘lot of uncertainty and fear’ yet it turned out well for him. Hence, Messi is expected to remain fit for tomorrow’s clash. Meanwhile, as for other stars, there isn’t any injury concern. Angel Di Maria was surprisingly an unused substitute in the previous clash but is expected to be deployed by Scaloni in the final.
Canada
Tajon Buchanan is the biggest concern for all Canadians. The Inter Milan star broke his tibia while training for the clash against Venezuela. The 25-year-old midfielder underwent a successful surgery in the following days and eventually joined his teammates. Yet, it’s unlikely that he will be available at Marsch’s disposal against Argentina. The rest of the team is far from injury and will be able to face Lionel Messi and Co. at ease.
Predicted line-ups
Argentina – possible starting lineup (4-4-3): E. Martinez; Molina, Romero, Lisandro Martinez, Tagliafico; De Paul, Mac Allister, Lo Celso; Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Di Maria.
Canada – possible starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Crepeau; Johnston, Bombito, Cornelius, Davies; Osorio, Eustaquio; Laryea, David, Shaffelburg; Larin

It is no easy feat to make it to this stage, and defeating Argentina tomorrow would see minstrels write songs about them.
