Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made a name for themselves as successful owners of the soccer club. The Hollywood actors have shown a passion for Wrexham AFC since the takeover. They haven’t hesitated in making investments in the club despite making losses.
But what has caught the eyes of many is their approach toward the Wrexham community. For them, it’s not only the soccer club or players, society also holds importance. However, English fans think Reynolds and McElhenney are on the path of City Football Group, a claim denied by the club executives for one crucial reason.

The club’s executive director Humphrey Ker and advisor Shaun Harvey opened up about Wrexham, the documentary, and the project Reynolds and McElhenney have taken up. Ker and Harvey were on the SportsPro show recently. English fans are wondering if Reynolds and McElhenney will buy multiple soccer clubs, like City Football Group. When the host asked this question to the Red Dragons’ executives, they denied it.
Humphrey Ker said, “I spend a lot of time flying back and forth from LA to Wales. I’m not sure I can fly anywhere else as well. So that’s my take on it.” He was very much clear that isn’t the case, and the Hollywood duo focused only on the world’s third-oldest soccer club.
Shaun Harvey was also on the same page with Ker. He said, “Wrexham really worked for this particular project. And you know, because of the documentary, for all the reasons that we’ve outlined, and it could work in either way. I don’t necessarily think that it is the next City Football Group.”
Harvey went on to outline the reasons behind his claim.

According to Harvey, “I do think Wrexham has been able to put on the map for people is that you could look at Rob and Ryan’s ownership as their version of philanthropy. Ultimately, they’re losing money. They’re putting money into supporting a community project to deliver that community benefit. I think what a lot people have realized is how much enjoyment you could actually get by delivering good, and using the football club as that vehicle.”
It has been evident from day one of the takeover that Reynolds and McElhenney are looking beyond soccer. They have made several investments in the betterment of the community. They are easily accessible to the community. And the county recently presented them with the highest civil award. Reynolds and McElhenney have a vision for the club. They want to take the club back to the Premier League in the next ten years.
