In Brazil’s game against Bolivia, Neymar created history. He broke the all-time goal-scoring record of Pele as his national team won the match 5-1. Despite the setback of a missed first-half penalty, he managed to net two goals, bringing his total number of national goals to 79. But some people are unhappy. They believe FIFA discredited Pele’s goal-scoring record and that he remains the best. With Pele dominating the game when stats were not a tremendous part of the game, Brazilian journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira criticized the accomplishment.

He stated how the media’s attention to the Brazilian soccer star assisted him in breaking the record. Therefore, the way the officials ignored history annoyed him. He went on a rant in a recent interview. Although Neymar spoke of Pele after the moment, the journalist criticized Neymar’s record-breaking moment.

The journalist stated his thoughts in a recent interview. He explained, “I was struck by the way the media, in general, treated the absurdity of saying that, in general, Neymar is the new record holder for goals for the Brazilian team. The record for goals belongs to Pelé, on average and in total. If FIFA discards games that were not between national teams. That’s their problem. In the same way that it’s CBF’s problem if they send out a fax distributing national titles.” The journalist believed Pele still holds the records with the countless goals he scored for his country and club.”

Despite FIFA’s documentation, the Brazilian Football Confederation believes he scored 95 goals in 114 matches. Santos, the club where they both started their careers, also denied him the respect he was due. He mentioned, “We can’t just ignore history and simply stay here approving absurdities and decisions from top hats in refrigerated cabinets, and that’s what’s happening.” Therefore, the Brazilian fans are in splits following the record-breaking moment.
