Appointing Kylian Mbappe Captain an ‘Admission of Weakness’ as PSG Star Torn to Shreds for Receiving Armband Instead of $26,840,000 Teammate

Back in March, France’s head coach, Didier Deschamps, appointed Kylian Mbappe as the national soccer team’s captain. He announced the 24-year-old as captain after Antoine Griezmann missed the role. To many, Griezmann became the perfect candidate to replace Hugo Lloris to lead the national team. Despite that, Deschamps decided to appoint Mbappe as the commander of the French national soccer team. Various fans and pundits have criticized the move, including former French players. 

Kevin Diaz, a former soccer player from France, detailed how the player did not deserve the captaincy armband and wanted Deschamps to show more control. Therefore, he voiced his opinions on the matter and analyzed the situation. 

Ex-player criticizes Deschamps for giving captaincy to Kylian Mbappe!

With the transfer saga of Real Madrid coming in the way of the Frenchmen, Mbappe’s authority amongst the soccer fraternity is astonishing. For a young player, some people suggest there is so much power. In the words of a wise man from Marvel, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Deschamps believes Mbappe to be the torchbearer for France. But Diaz could not agree to the outcome.

In his analysis of the situation, Diaz stated, “From the moment Deschamps decides to make Mbappé captain, it is because he has no other plan. It is an admission of weakness. He knows that he should have appointed Griezmann, that is That’s why he was at all the press conferences.” Griezmann has made 123 appearances for his country, scored 44 goals, and created 36 assists. Moreover, he led the team from the front at the 2018 World Cup, as well as the 2022 World Cup.

With two finals and valuable international experience under his belt, he could be the perfect candidate for the job. Deschamps took a U-turn and gave the responsibility to the PSG striker. He wants the young Frenchmen to lead the team and bridge the generation gaps. 

Mbappe is determined to lead the team!

After getting the armband, Mbappe spoke about his thoughts on the matter. He stated, “He wants me to be a unifier, to bring my team along with me. I am the link between the generations. I’m captain of my country, it’s something you can’t shirk. It’s a new responsibility. I’m going to take it on naturally, it’s not going to change how I play, but maybe the way I behave.”
