Is Messi's magic the key to Inter Miami's success, or is it a team effort?

They have done it! Inter Miami has been officially crowned as the winner of the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield. The feat comes at the heels of their emphatic 2-3 victory over Colombus Crew. As the whole team and ardent fans around the globe continue to celebrate this remarkable achievement,  Lionel Messi‘s wife Antonela Roccuzzo also joined the celebrations.

Just moments after the final whistle, Inter Miami shared a stunning graphic post of the players that announced them as the Supporters’ Shield winners on Instagram. Interestingly, without wasting any second, Roccuzzo reshared this post on her story alongside a caption, “🙌🙌🙌🙌.”

Even though the Argentinian influencer may have expressed her feelings with just a bunch of emojis, that doesn’t deny how proud she is of her husband’s achievement. In fact, not just Antonella, even Messi’s three adorable kids—Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro—would be cheering for their dad’s historic victory in Ohio’s Lower.com Field while watching him live back in Miami from their televisions.

It was just a year ago that they finished 14th in the Eastern Conference with just 34 points. Now, Tata Martino and Co. managed to defy the odds and rightfully took the crowning as league leaders. Remarkably, this is both Miami and Messi’s second silverware in the MLS, having lifted the Leagues Cup last season.

Even the match promised to be no less than a dramatic encounter. Both sides took longer than expected to break the deadlock but Lionel Messi did so in the 45th minute. La Pulga wasn’t stopping there as he netted a brilliant free-kick in the stoppage time of the first half to double the lead. However, just 60 seconds into the latter half, Columbus equalized, the courtesy of Diego Rossi.

Luckily, Messi’s best amigo Luis Suarez stepped up to find the third goal a couple of minutes later. Just when Miami thought of setting the game to cruise control, Columbus won a penalty during the hour mark, with Cucho Hernandez netting from the spot to reignite hopes of a comeback. However, it wasn’t their day as Wilfried Nancy’s side was down to 10 men as Rudy Camacho received his second yellow booking in the 63rd minute.
