Anthony Martial is in the last year of his contract with Manchester United. Plagued with injuries and brittle form throughout his time at the club, the Red Devils management has, for long, been looking for solutions to the Martial problem. A failed loan spell at Sevilla did not help the striker’s cause either. Consequently, the player and his agent are now exploring a move to the Saudi League.

There were expectations that Anthony Martial could relaunch his Manchester United career under Erik ten Hag. It, however, now looks like his journey with the club could be over.

Despite the club having the option to extend Martial’s contract for one more season, reports indicate that the Red Devils have made up their mind. Amid this, the agent of Martial has also approached Saudi side Al Ettifaq. The club is managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. This indicates that the Red Devils have no problems with him finding a new club. Manchester United would love a transfer fee in the January transfer window. If not, the plan remains that he can leave on a free next summer.

He has scored only 1 goal this season, which came against Everton. It did not ever work out for the 28-year-old at Old Trafford. In the 2019-20 season, he scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists in his 48 games. This increased the expectations from fans. But, the forward failed to build on that. He then went on loan to La Liga side Sevilla in the second half of the 21-22 season yet failed to open his account.

Many soccer fans would see the Saudi move at 28 as a downgrade for Antony Martial. However, the player would get a huge opportunity to save his career like former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anthony Martial could replicate the same success as Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi League

Anthony Martial would not be the first United player to make a move to the Saudi League. The former left-back Alex Telles also made a move in the summer to Al Nassr. However, the biggest one was Cristiano Ronaldo on a free transfer to Al Nassr. His issues with Erik ten Hag led to the Portuguese star moving to the Saudi League in the last season.

Since then Cristiano Ronaldo has set the Saudi League on fire. The Al Nassr star has 50 goals in the year of 2023. Anthony Martial could certainly take inspiration from his former teammate. A move to the Saudi League could be the exact thing the French forward would want to relaunch his career, and the former Golden Boy will have to decide.
