Wrexham AFC can’t seem to catch a break from receiving global attention. Beyond their achievements on the soccer pitch, the Red Dragons are making in the television world as well, courtesy of their sensational documentary, ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’ In fact, the records don’t seem to be stopping for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-produced series as they have earned a major nomination in the 2024 TV Critics Award.
The news came via the social networks of the documentary. Wrexham FX’s official page, in collaboration with FX Network and Rob McElhenney, shared a post on Instagram. A picture of Reynolds looking at McElhenney in disbelief was posted with the caption, “Can you believe it?! Welcome to Wrexham has received a 2024 TV Critics Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Reality.”
Speaking of their rivals, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ will face tough competition from the likes of Peacock’s ‘The Traitors’ and Bravo’s ‘Top Chef.’ Interestingly, ‘The Amazing Race’ on CBS, which has previously won in 2011 and 2022, also returns to contend for the award. The remaining three are from HBO Max’s lineup, including ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go,’ ‘Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,’ and ‘We’re Here.’

Rest genres include Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, Drama, Movies, Miniseries or Specials, News and Information, Variety Talk or Sketch, Family Programming, Children’s Programming, and New Program, none of which ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been nominated in. Similarly, Individual Achievement in Drama and Comedy are also categories within which the docuseries has not received nominations.
Yet, making the Outstanding Achievement in Reality is itself a huge milestone. Already, the Welsh club’s documentary has won five Emmy Awards in the past. Meanwhile, the TV Critics Award isn’t the only award that Wrexham would be hoping to win.
