What a grim reality! The man who seized five UEFA Champions League titles and a UEFA Euro title is now tired of playing second fiddle to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal. After failing six times last season to win against Al Hilal, Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr lost the Saudi Super Cup again to their domestic rivals. As if this recurring shame was not enough for Ronaldo, he had to hear rival fans raucously chanting his arch-rival Lionel Messi’s name from the stands. Struggling to take any of these vitriols anymore, the 39-year-old veteran vanished from the pitch after the final whistle.

At this point, it would rather be a big shame for Cristiano Ronaldo to receive yet another silver medal during his Al Nassr stint. He is accustomed to flaunting the gold, which in Al Nassr is nothing but a distant dream. So, Ronaldo did not wait a second to partake in the Saudi Super Cup medal ceremony. He stormed off the pitch to find solace in the locker room, it seems.

It is unclear if the Saudi League authorities would frown on Ronaldo for turning his back on the medal ceremony. If so, that will be the only remaining blow CR7 has to take on this dreaded night. Besides, the obvious humiliation of routinely losing to Al Hilal, the 5x-Ballon d’Or winner brushed with further embarrassment, as he cut a hot-headed figure before Al Hilal fans and even against his own teammates.

Cristiano Ronaldo loses his cool over ‘Messi’ chants and tragic loss

Cristiano Ronaldo getting provoked by Lionel Messi chants has to be the most cliched storyline in the Saudi League lately. He once even got a two-game suspension for obscenely gesturing his hands to fans in response to ‘Messi’ chants. This game was no outlier, either. The 39-year-old scored the first goal of the game and silenced the raucous Al Hilal fans who uttered Messi’s name.

 

Then again, Ronaldo unleashed an outrage on his teammates for conceding four goals in 17 minutes in the Super Cup final. He gestured that his pals were sleeping when their domestic rivals were firing one goal after the other. It is quite rare to see soccer team captains openly show their frustration to their teammates. While Ronaldo went on with this antic, Al Hilal’s fourth goal fueled fans’ spirits. They raised the volume of their ‘Messi’ chants so much that Ronaldo had to helplessly look at the ecstatic crowd. 

Ronaldo and Al Nassr now await their Saudi League opener against Al Raed on August 23. Only a decent run in the Saudi League will help Al Nassr rise up from the recurrent and humiliating losses to their domestic rivals.
