The warning came after a several gunman opened fire at a Rosario-based service station.

It all transpired at the Lamadrid and Oroño service station, which lies in the southern part of the city. Months ago, the forward had expressed his desire to end his career at his boyhood club, Rosario Central. However, a drug cartel in Rosario warned Di Maria to stay away from the city with a threatening message: “Tell your son Angel not to come back to Rosario because we will kill a family member,” the message read, as per Infobae. “Not even Pullaro is going to save you,” referring to the provincial governor of the city, Maximiliano Pullaro. “We don’t leave paper notes. We leave bullets and dead people behind,” it added.

Notably, the threat was made via a car near the neighborhood where Di Maria usually resides. This happened in March while he was in the US for Argentina’s friendly against Costa Rica. Meanwhile, another threat came recently, which explains his surprising reversal in his future plans.
